Joanne Vaught Bess, 82, of Boise, died Friday, June 8, 2012 at home following a short illness.

Prayer vigil will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Cloverdale Funeral Home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2012 at St. John's Cathedral with Rev. Donald J Riffle as Celebrant.  Inurnment will follow at Morris Hill Cemetery.

Joanne, born February 22, 1930, was the oldest of three children born to Mary Jo and Ernest Vaught in Wythe County, Virginia. She lived in Virginia and North Carolina while growing up, graduating from Wilkesboro High School, 1948, in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina.  After high school Joanne went to Sacred Heart College in Belmont, North Carolina getting her degree in Home Economics. In 1951 Joanne moved to Arlington, Virginia and started working for Leatherneck Magazine as an administrative assistant.  Here she met her husband, Gordon C. Bess.  They married in 1955 living in Arlington until 1957 when they moved to New Jersey.  During this time they had their first child.  Shortly after the small family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio two more children were born.  The family stayed in Cincinnati until June of 1970 when they moved to Boise. Joanne lived here until her death.

Joanne traveled with family and friends to various places, but what she enjoyed most was volunteering her time.  She volunteered at The Elk's Rehabilitation Hospital, St. Vincent de Paul and belonged to the Women of St. John's.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon.  She is survived by daughters, Susan and Debbie and son, Richard, daughter-in-law Laura Bess, son-in-law Bob Parent, grandchildren Ella and Gordie Bess, Dusty and Tyson Parent and great grandchildren, Jaquia, Tyse and Suzy Jo Parent, also brothers, Charles and Robert Vaught.

Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Hospice in Joanne's honor.
