Richard Lee "Dick" Hildebrandt, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 30, 2016 at age 93 in Boise, Idaho. A memorial service will be held at the Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery on Tuesday, November 22nd at 2:00 p.m. Dick was born in Enid, Oklahoma on January 4, 1923 to Ida (Davis) Hildebrandt and Gust Hildebrandt. His father passed away when Dick was just 10 years old and he moved with his family (3 brothers, 3 sisters) to Kuna, Idaho. He often talked about working for various farmers and riding his bicycle from Kuna to Meridian to go to school. His mother passed in 1939 after a long illness, and his eldest sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Basil Lamb, took him in and raised him with their twin daughters, Jean and Joan, until he joined the army to serve our country in World War II. He fought in battles in North Africa, Germany, and France and received ranger training in Italy. Dick was awarded the bronze star in WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was also called to serve in Korea, honorably discharged in 1953. After the war. Richard married Virginia Warrick and they had three children. Following his military service, Dick drove bus for his good friend, George Taylor at Pacific Trailways. He also loved driving truck and drove for several freight lines including PIE and Garrett. Dick was a gifted mechanic and retired as shop foreman from the Boise Project Board of Control in 1987 after 24 years of service. He married Phebe Marchington (Morris) June 30, 1978. Dick and Phebe had a wonderful life together, traveling and exploring in their retirement; snowbirds in Yuma, Arizona where they enjoyed many friendships. He and Phebe enjoyed many years together in their home In Boise where they enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and lots of family fun. His hobbies were reading westerns and gardening, especially his garlic crop. Dick was a lifetime member of the Masons. He is preceded in death by his parents and all his brothers and sisters (Bernice, Charley, Henry, Dwaine, Dorothy, and Ruby). Dick is survived by his wife, Phebe, his three children (Vicky Frost, Susan Hildebrandt, Michael Hildebrandt), Step-daughter and son-in-law (Marlene and Robert Puckett); he was grandpa to 11 (Justin and Ryan Sorensen, Mike and Patrick Hildebrandt, Melanie Munson, Eric Hamilton, Shawna Billings, Alana Desaro, Felisha Lechland, Allen Puckett, Heidi Mireles & numerous great grandchildren. His presence will be greatly missed by many, but will live on in our hearts forever.
