Jan passed away peacefully Saturday morning, at home, in Boise. Her courageous four-year battle finally found peace. A remarkable grandmother, mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. To describe her spirit is as simple as her name - Jan. Everyone knows her poise and grace, the kindness in her heart and her zest for life. Whether knowing her your entire life or having just met her, you knew her. Jan did everything she could for everyone, she never complained, and she loved her family and friends. Even when she was exhausted, she always smiled and took every visitor; her door and heart were always open. Her only concern was that she be remembered, Jan is one we will never forget.
Born in Missoula, Montana to Stephen and Elizabeth Burgad, into a family of eight. Jan loved family and spoke fondly of growing up in Missoula and Hollywood, California. She graduated from Hellgate H.S., in Missoula in 1970. She attended the University of Montana and graduated with a degree in nursing. After graduating, except for briefly working for the US Forest Service, she worked as a nurse her entire career. It is not uncommon to have someone recognize Jan, years later, as their nurse. Prior to retirement, Jan worked as an OB/GYN nurse and loved all the new mothers she helped.
In 1980 she married her husband, Bradley in a dress she sewed herself. After their wedding they moved to Scobey, Montana in 1982 and to Boise in 1983. Jan lived in the first and only house she ever bought and made it a home. Many of her special crafts decorate her house every season. Her home is filled with the history of her life and love. Her refrigerator has picture after picture of her family and friends. Instead of taking a picture down to put another one up she just rearranged to squeeze another one in. Everyone was important to Jan.
Jan was completely devoted to her three children, Jeffrey, Kristin and Michelle and always provided support, encouragement, compassion and understanding. She was so very proud that each of the children served in the Air Force and graduated from college. While her children meant the most to her, her grandchildren meant the world. Nothing stood in between the love she had for her grandchildren. She attended every game, performance or award. Nothing can express the pride and love she had for her family.
Devoted to her husband, Brad; together they lived life with their cup always more than half full. Married for 36 years they made endless memories at their McCall cabin, boating, skiing, camping and traveling. No one will forget her exclaiming, "Bradley!" to get his attention. Whether traveling to visit family, a vacation or a cabin weekend, Jan and Brad always brought good times along and more than enough to share. Jan filled her bucket list all the time. She lived and experienced life as she went along, she didn't hold back. Her favorite all time places were Hawaii, McCall and her home. Jan definitely lived life and smelled the roses.
She is survived by her husband Brad, her daughters Michelle and Kristin and her husband Cory and their son Oliver, her son Jeffrey and his wife Sara and their sons Jared, Colby and Cayden, and her brother Mark and sisters Jennifer and Barbara. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Elizabeth, brothers and sisters, Roger, Bob, Dimpy, and Denny.
A memorial service will be held Sunday December 18, 2016 from 1-3pm at Cloverdale Funeral Chapel in Boise followed by a Hawaiian Luau at the Gowen Field Activity Center in Boise. Pick up directions at the end of the service.
