Tribute & Message From The Family

Alice Rutledge Madden passed away unexpectedly on July 31, 2016. She was 72.

Alice was born on January 17, 1944 in Asheville, North Carolina to Overton Westfeldt Price and Dorothea Rutledge Price. She attended school in Asheville through eighth grade followed by high school in Charleston, South Carolina, graduating in 1961. She attended the University of South Carolina for three years before moving back home to begin work at the Red Cross in Asheville.

In September of 1965 Alice drove to Berkley, California with her best friend from college. It was there that she met the love of her life and best friend, Jerry D. Madden. They were married in Fletcher, North Carolina on November 26, 1966. They lived in the Bay Area until November of 1971 when they moved back to Idaho, Jerry's home state. Together they had three children - Katie, Dano, and John - whom they raised in Boise. Alice was a stay-at-home mom who volunteered many hours at Jefferson Elementary School. Later, she went to work for the American Heart Association, followed by the ARC, where she was working at the time of her death.

Alice's family was everything to her. She adored her children and found enormous enjoyment in her grandchildren. She loved her golden retrievers, gardening, her daily walks with Jerry, and sitting on the back porch during the summertime. Everyone who knew Alice loved her. She fed anyone who walked through her door and she was a kind and generous neighbor.

Alice was preceded in death by her mother, father, and brother, Overton Westfeldt Price, Jr. Alice is survived by her husband of nearly fifty years, Jerry. She is also survived by daughter Katie Pietrzak and her husband Jason, son Dano Madden and his wife Lauren Singerman, son John Madden, and her three grandchildren: Nicholas and Allie Pietrzak and Lane Smith.

A memorial service will be held at Cloverdale Funeral Home at 11am on Saturday August 6, 2016. The address is 1200 N. Cloverdale Road in Boise.
